Anyone remember a small ad in the back of this rag back in the 70's-80's for a camera shop with a picture of 3 or 4 people that owned it. There was like a tall blond guy named Sven or Bjorn his Dad and a sister. They had their names under their photo in the ad. I was trying to find a picture of that ad also. Anyone??

It's really hard to find information on FASHION photography. I need a camera to capture images for clothing that is put on a still mannequin without causing too much moire effect. I currently have a D5600 & D550, but I'm not completely satisfied with the auto white balance of each camera. They also don't accurately pick up shades of kelly green, or "in between colors" like a purple toned blue. I'm thinking about buying a D7100 or D7200. Fashion photography with a still mannequin is entirely different than any other photography. Any advice?

Back when I lusted for large format lenses, I would peruse the ads from 42nd street photo in the back of PP. Standing in the aisle of a drug store of course. I rarely bought it.

    Ad Rag!!

  25. Mike-Boohaka says

It's the same in the UK. All the mags are mostly the same now and so full of advertising! I get far more from watching you tube, especially you!! :-))

  26. Spot on. They can't go out of print fast enough. They used to do the same article, or variations of "You MUST shoot RAW", not even allowing for the usefulness of jpg, and the higher frame rates, for sports photography. And the "reviews"? A complete joke- glorified ad supplements. RIP, Pop Photo!

Much appreciated and i really enjoyed your videos about magnetism you do amazing stuff explaining how that stuff works.

Digital every thing is taking over, machines are taking over, same with books, papers are soon to be ADIOS …and once every thing is in the CLOUD and the papers are gone then the kill switch of the net is hit, and lucky who kept some paper books of use. DID THEY MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT IT? HOW ABOUT (The Book of Eli)??????

  29. David Lewis says

Agree…..I HATE all forms of advertising….If your shit is any good the word will get out without you having to pay agencies to shove it down our throats……Conversely, if your shit is mediocre at best, then it doesn't matter to me how much you paid an agency to make it look good, I will take the big tattooed guys word over yours all day long!

I haven't seen anything good in that magazine for years but I still like Shutterbug…Rangefinder would be a great magazine but just too many weddings…way too many wedding issues!

I wanted to like Popular Photography. I subscribed to them for a few years because they were often one of the $2 bargain subscriptions with various subscription services. I still have a years worth of them from 2010 and 2011 sitting in my restroom, and haven't felt compelled to renew since. I felt like the photography they featured was often somewhat mediocre and bland, and it seemed like it catered to the advanced amateur to reel in the "Oh, I could do that too!" audience. It was rare I ever read an article and was really engaged or wanted to attempt a concept they showcased. I guess it could have been worse. With a name like Popular Photography, they could have just featured people taking Instagram shots of their sandwiches.
