10 things (and more) you need as a Newborn Photographer
In this video I’m talking about ten things (and more) which I think you need as a Newborn Photographer.
I’m a full-time photographer in the Netherlands and I’m planning on showing you a but more of my life as a photographer. Are you interested in photography? Are you looking for a free-online Photography course? Do you want to see the inside of a Photo Studio? Then please, watch my videos and subscribe to my channel!
I’m planning on sharing videos in which I show you my typical work-week as a photographer. I will give you tips & tricks concerning photography, photo shoots, backdrops, studio props, camera settings (iso, aperture, shutter speed, white balance), photoshoot outfits, photoshoot make-up etc.
Ik zal videos maken over camera instellingen (iso, sluitertijd, diafragma, wit-balans), studio achtergronden, fotoshoot outfits, fotoshoot make-up enz.
IMPORTANT
If you are interested in photographing newborn babies yourself I would highly recommend you to first learn about photography in general. Master you camera, photograph in the Manual mode, learn about aperture, iso, shutter speed, white balance, light and composition. Take photos of your friends (adults or very patient older kids) and make sure you don’t have to think about your camera anymore when photographing babies. Learn about editing as well. Please, don’t experiment photographing Newborn babies without training. Attend a workshop by an experienced and professional photographer with an expertise in Newborn Photography. Learn about the anatomy of babies and invest in good quality cameras, lenses and props. Babies are extremely vulnerable and small and their safety and comfort should be your highest priority. Start with simple poses and make sure you know and understand that many ‘pinterest poses’ are composites. Please, don’t try this at home. If you want beautiful photos of your own Newborn Baby, I highly recommend you to hire a professional and experienced photographer who is trained and specialised in Newborn Photography.

Hi from Ecuador. 😊 Please, can you recomend me a lens for a nikkon d5300. Thank you. Your videos are awesome.
thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
I agree. Photography is my hobby but people tell me to monetize it but I have no formal training and education. I have no money or time to go to school.
What a dreamy job i want to cry. Beautiful explanation i hope you have tons of babies coming in to your studio this year, because you deserve them and they're deserve you! Thanks for the precious knowledge.. Subscribed! 💓💓💓💓
Very good tips, especially the “you don’t become a newborn photographer quickly” there is so much to learn and safety is the biggest issue for me when I see new photogs out there handling babies, and yes… new moms are always so overprotective so you better handle that sweet baby like gold 🙂 thanks for the video!
I feel very lucky considering I studied to become a midwife and have been a hobby photographer for 10 years. And I agree, knowing how to handle the babies and know what they need, is the number one priority and does take up 90% of yoru time during these shoots.
So all in all: Great tips!
I am so terrified of becoming a newborn photographer even though I've had a baby of my own. Do you handle the baby or direct the parent in handling the baby? Do parents get fussy about the fabric being used? How do you handle laundry?
This is so useful video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I highly recommend for newborns the Beansley Milestone Stickers. I've used them and my sister has used them for baby photos. Thought I'd share these since it relates to your video.

Do you ever give printed photos or only digital?
I just love how your videos are so calm and serene..Thank you for all you do.
I started with my very first photo session a newborn 🙂 but I also have 2 children and 15 years experience with babies. So I am comfortable with it. Also I was a teacher, so I LOVE education and have been watching videos and taking one on one lessons. I also have my first aid, CPR and infant CPR certificates.
Your advice has helped me a lot, your channel is the only one I´ve found on youtube that truly explains everything super well this type of work! Thanks!!!

Wonderful videos! I really enjoy watching them. Would love to know how you started your business and built it up etc. Keep up the great work! 🙂
Hi Fenna. Where have you bought your backdrops from ( they you use for family session and smash the cake) ? They look so wrinkle free and thick! I bought several but they are really thin and wrinkly, and I think I'm going mad after buying like 10 pieces that isn't what i look for. I really love the look of yours. And those that looks faded in color in the middle. Please get back to me.
Thank you so much for the video. It's very informative
Hello, I'd like to know how you started with your business, did you have a studio right away or did this take time? What variety of props etc did you have? How did you get to where you are today with clients, what marketing etc did you need to do to get your name out there? Was it slow going at first? How long did it take before you were able to make this your full time job?
I've just set up my own studio after many many years of thinking about it, 8 years ago now since i graduated university. Currently things are going quite slowly and I am still working my full time job along side my photography.
Any tips, advice and personal experience in the early days of starting your studio would be amazing. I'd love to make my studio my full time job 🙂
Keep up the great work xxx 🙂
