So what's the story? To me, it's just a bloke in a strange coat standing on the bridge. What's the story there? Where's the beginning, the middle and the end? It seems to me that 'story' and 'narrative' are just clichés used by people to try to make photographs special.

They're just portraits of Jared, who doesn't do anything at all but pose for portraits of Jared. If you want to see narrative, look up the work of Robert Capa, Susan Meiselas, Norman Mauskopf, or Lewis Hine. And here's a possibility. This photographer is one of the 'directly in front of you' people who seems to be consciously creating the story. Some of the best narrative photographers shoot like they're operating by intuition and seeing from their peripheral vision.
