Do you have a 35mm that you do recommend?

  2. mougabo says

This makes lots of sense , thanks for sharing

  3. Frank Wolff says

What flash do you use and how often do you use it at the events. So you create a profile ( C2) that starts off with the camera in crop mode. Are there other settings that take advantage of the crop mode that normally wouldn't be used for full frame mode? I have A7iii and will try it to see the level of quality. Thank you, FW

  4. Robert Sanchez says

You don’t use a 70-200 2.8 for your wedding shoots?

  5. Omar Elgo says

Which flash do you use? And do you use it outdoors aswell? I have my first wedding gig in two weeks and I might need a flash.

  6. Laurent Truong says

Why not shoot full frame and then crop it later in post? Does it change your mind set or the way you see the action? Or is it just a workflow kind of thing where cropping takes too long?

  7. andrew amacher says

Do we really need to see you drinking coffee and chit chatting. These blogs need to get the the meat of the video

  8. Stephanie Z says

What lens do you use for your detail shots?

  9. ART Photography says

what is the name of the plate attached under your cameras

  10. Qi Xiao says

what a coincidence! I have a 85GM and 2 35mm lenses. Thinking of selling one 35mm and getting the 24GM.

  11. Rick Williams says

what settings do you use when exporting photos to deliver to customers? I heard you say 5000 pxl long edge?

  12. Tristan says

    Still use your 50 1.4?

  13. Aaron Rebarchek says

Looking forward to Sony's 135mm, that can be a 202mm on the A7Riii!!!

  14. Nick Granville says

Thats about the most perfect setup. I often shoot a 35mm and 85mm but I think the 24mm would be more useful on an A7r cause of the crop mode. Thanks

  15. Olivia Moon says

Do none of the other alpha models have a crop mode? I thought the A7ii had this function? I want to dip my toes into sony before making the leap – the a7Riii is out of my budget range at the moment, but love your set up!

@ Chris Turner What do you use for close up wedding ring shot? I have the Sigma 24mm, Zeiss 55 and FE85 as my wedding kit, I found myself rarely reach for the 55mm, so I ended up selling it. Now wondering do I replace it with the Tamron 28-75 or a macro lens? What do you think? By the way, I have A7R2 and A7iii as my two bodies.

  17. George Murray says

#1 reason I went with R3 over the 3 is due to the crop mode. I use the 28-70 Tamron 90% of the time. Great kit you have there

  18. Jason Franco says

I had just purchased the 24-70gm, discounted thanks to contributions from my family. But I am seriously thinking about returning it and just picking up another a7r3 and mount the 35 1.4 to it and leave the 85 on my other r3 as you did. Still undecided.

  19. Mathieu says

Quick question: could you post some comparison shots to compare the DoF between the cropped 85to135 vs a native 135?

I love this idea, especially since it sort-of saves on money that can be used for a superior body and/or help travel lighter. Great content!

  20. shanedegroot says

Great video Chris, I’ve been tossing up which lenses to buy and you’ve just confirmed what I’ve been thinking 24mm Gmaster and 85. Winning combo.

  21. Inese Kungurova says

I like how you think, I have been searching for the super minimalistic kit, and this makes sense, especially for weddings. Only, what do you use for macro shots? Do you just crop the image down from your 85?

  22. John Young says

50mm is so underrated. But I think it's the most balanced focal length in photography. Because sometimes a 35 shows too much. And sometimes 85 just doesn't show enough. But with the 50, you can get elements of both. Sure, it depends on the scene, but some scenes definitely look best with a 50. Henri Cartier-Bresson's lens of choice was the 50. It's very capable of delivering epic shots in the right setting.

ey up mate. still debating wether to switch over to Sony for weddings. This video makes sense totally but my client albums are only printed around 30cm square and they pretty much just get posted online etc. Would having all that extra resolution/mp be a waste over just getting the a7 3’s? I mean all that extra file size seems like overkill especially when I’m shooting about 2000 images per wedding. Happy to hear your thoughts dude!

  24. Guillaume R says

People who worry about 18/19 Mpixels: I still frequently use my old 1DSII from Canon. Even though it has lots of limitations compared to today’s technology, it is still a marvelous and relevant camera to use, it has about 17Mpixels, and the raw files look absolutely gorgeous.

(The colour science is also incredible, even compared to modern Canon cameras. Difficult to explain, but I spend far less time editing colours on those files, colour profiles do a perfect job.

The more pixels, the more possibilities, yes. But don’t forget that some of the greatest shots of all times were taken with far less technologically advanced equipment.

Your gear only allows you to work faster and more reliably. It does not necessarily make you a better photographer. Which should be the main focus really.

  25. V PR says

If you have 2 leneses – 24 and 35 and you crop further from 35, would the pics look the same? (body proportion, colors, quality of the file?)

  26. Patrick C says

Hmm, what about maybe using the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8?

  27. Kostadin Atanasov says

the thieves now know where you keep your wallet hahah 😀

  28. joe black says

this is great idea! But how is the distortion on 24mm gm cropeed vs sigma 35mm … especially the faces .. does it shows?

  29. Photo Bob says

Nice video. I agree with 50mm. On one end it’s such a versatile focal length but on the other end I find it boring. I too want 35 or 85.

  30. Tor A says

Hey Chris, what do you think of my setup for starting wedding photography: A7RII + Sigma 35mm 1.4 & Sony 50mm 1.8? Thanks for the content
