Landscape Photography – Do We Need Filters Anymore?
My thoughts on using Polarising filters, ND Grads and ND filters with all that digital technology offers these days. I discuss Hi-tech, Nisi and Lee filters.

I've been doing photography for six years and I constantly heard to get things right in camera. Now that I'm learning how to use filters people keep saying just do it in post.
Thomas, I LOVE your work, your honesty and the amount of learning you convey so enjoyably in your videos. Just one question—have you tried the BREAKTHROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY Mark X4 neutral density filters? I’d be happy to send you one of mine just by way of thanks for the lessons I’ve learned from your vids. Let me know and I’ll send a 100mm square X4 of your choice. Many thanks again, ArthurPix
I appreciate your point of view. I'd call that an accurate assessment- I'd dump the grads myself : )
what do you recommned for 11-24 F4 canon ultra wide, I see the wonderpano system but it seems like they don't have anything darker than 10 stops, looking for 15 stop ND
Hii tom, i really want to know how you attach your polarize filter on filter holder?
Thankyou first if you would answer my question 🙏🏽
great comment Thomas certainly after you put de music on
100% agree with him
Is that a 105mm Heliopan ? Regular or slim filter? Gee they are super expensive (the cost of some lenses) but I'm sure incredible.
I wanted to know the filters that he uses, and exactly the ones he uses and this video feeds my curiosity
How much of a difference do you think the Heliopan polarizer makes over the Lee? Thanks ….Thomas
This is a very inspirational video… Many thanks
I hit the like button when you said "it's the craft"
Can you focus stack properly with long exposures too?
What you think about kase filters mate
Huge respect for constructively criticising the free filters you received. It's a rarity to hear an honest opinion of a product when it's been gifted to the user (especially on YouTube!!).
G’day.
Firstly, Love your channel 👍
In regards to filter brands, they say Benro filters are something to consider in comparison to Lee filters.

Hey I recently bought a 10-20mm Nikon Wide Angle Lens. I have a lens hood on it but I wanted to get a polarize 77mm lens. Can I use both at the same time, or is it one or the other? Thanks!
I think filters are only good for getting the same look that you get when looking through a pair of polarized sunglasses. But plastic filters are all garbage. They will always degrade image quality. You need really good glass filters for them to be worthwhile. A 2 stop ND filter with a polarizing filter is about as much as anyone needs to get a nice look in general photography.
So I have a question. I have read some debate on whether or not to put a UV or skylight filter on your lense to protect it from being scratched or damaged. What is your opinion?
it’s not as easy as people make it out to be. i do mainly sunrise/sunset seascapes, and between the motion of the water, the interaction of the physical sun and light on the elements of the comp, and the motion of whatever i want in the shot, luminosity masks, blending, and stacking can get more than cumbersome. evening out an exposure with a GND takes the complexity out of the equation. i say dynamic range improvements make GNDs even more of a plus. this way i can get a flatter exposure and play with the dynamic range in lightroom to no end. if i want a sun star AND LE waves, i can still bracket with a GND and get exposures that don’t range from totally blown out to just a sun star. i still take dozens of shots per outing but it’s to make the most of the changing light. instead of worrying about exposure, i can worry about the comp and the look i want.
Lol! "They said hey Tom…" (Cuts to ad for Udemy) "…you take really great photos.
Brilliant! Thank you Thomas
Sir I have a curiosity, do LEE filter 100mm square filter fit in NISI 100mm holder system? If that will be fit then I will get NISI holder system but filter from LEE. Hope you will reply.
