A initially learned photography as a kid shooting black & white then developing the photos in a dark room, that was a magical time and sparked my interest in photography. As I got older I dabbled in digital photography but wasn't until my kids were born that i really started to get an active interest back in it all.

la musique est tellement triste.ça gache les photos!!
3:26 the father looks devastated. Can't tell which is dead, the wife or the child.
The first one is a little boy with a wig and a dress. In fact quite a few of them are.
Bellísimas fotos antiguas
Wow, they would scare you to death….they look dead
something a bit spooky about this
Everyone looks young, yet old.
Children with adult faces….
I must say that the children and adults look unhappy or scared. Maybe the idea of photography was a bit scary back then! Fantastic photos though and interesting children' clothing ! Can't imagine dressing a 5 y/o in all that gear !
I don't think I ever saw so many little girls with off the shoulder dresses. Can't imagine how difficult it would be to keep those dresses from sliding off. Don't think I ever saw that before in old photos. Curious
They look so sad, scared, hopeless.
that music is strange & irritating. yes, they had some extraordinary photography back then. clear, crisp & moody. the smiling mom & little girl-so sweet. great photos.
The poor mothers looked old before their time
sweet babies
Alot of these photos are postmortem
Life was hard back then. Even small children had to work if only on their property and their house.
Are these mostly American people? The clothes are a bit odd…. lovely pic of baby laughing, thanks for that one 🙂
Surprised to see so many with color painted on very rare for time..great video. Thanks
The young girl at 6:30 is quite striking. Her hair style and curls actually look somewhat modern.
Most of these kids looked unhappy. I'm sure it was hard for them to sit still, as well as the parents contending with trying to get them to hold still and stop whining.
They all look so unhappy. SAD.
So depressed.
Sweet
Yes, in some you can see the tale tell base of the stand they used to pose the bodies.
The very old cameras you had to not move or smile or it blurred badly. That's why people in thes pics are so sad looking. Not sad, just the style of that time period.
I wonder how long they had to sit still for the photographer? They all look so stiff and unhappy. Would love to know their stories, who they were, where they lived, what their lives were like.
Those people became Us.
So frail. Dirty hands. Mom’s with ill looking eyes. The last one is disturbing. Times have certainly changed.
it's 1840s
So many sad looking people
who is the pianist playing in the background? I absolutely love it
A pity there is no context, not even where these photos have been taken!
They would have to keep still for a long time whilst their photo was taken in those days, that might account for their appearance.
I love old pictures.
Some of them may be dead in the photos. It whas not uncomon in that time
Amazing ! Not just the children, hardly noticed them.Look at the adults and their clothing, their hair styles, how alive they look, it really brings that time period to life !
Seriously ugly hairstyles for adults and children alike…life just looks so hard !
Some of them look like adult heads photoshopped on kids bodies.
Love seeing these old photos…but hate the creepy music! More fitting for those post mortem pictures.
Off the shoulder dresses on little girls is just plain creepy. Love the laughing baby and all most smiling mom.
very classy clothes, not like some of the crap today…ornate furniture..sadly most would die in the Civil war and their kids and their kids and their kids and their kids would still be called Racists even tho slavery still goes on Today. what a waste
Grand Photographs!
Now we know just what a big difference a smile makes. So many look solemn, uncomfortable and maybe a bit nervous. They had to hold poses for quite some time, so I’m guessing they are focused on sitting still. It wasn’t like the got a photo shoot.
Imagine being a kid (or adult) unfamiliar with how photography worked. It’s easy to compare it to the fear or apprehension many people feel when going to the doctor. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes tests have to be done. It’s the unknown factor &/or superstitious beliefs.
Why they're not smiling nor happy?!😕
at 3:21 imagine having that guy for a father i can see it he was Strict , mean. religious
Out of 42 photos only one depicted a mother and child smiling. Everyone looked so forlorn.
