Soon after Suriya and Jyothika acted in back-to-back films ‘Poovellam Kettupar’ and ‘Uyirile Kalanthathu’, Media began speculating that they were seeing each other. The two actors used to discuss those gossips on the sets and laugh it out heartily. At that time, they came to know about each other.
After the film ‘Nanda’, Suriya’s career slowed down and there was a gap of two years. During this period, he used to keep himself busy with training in stunts and gymnastics at YMC Grounds, Chennai. One day, the shooting of Suriya and Jyothika’s film was happening at the same place. Jyothika has sent her assistant to Suriya asking him to meet her on the sets. Suriya conveyed that he would meet some other day as he was sweating heavily due to the vigorous workout. Then Jyothika immediately came to Suriya and seriously asked,”Why are you avoiding me? From now, we should stay in touch”. Both of them exchanged their phone numbers on the spot and began talking over phone daily. After few days, the two stars realized that they were more than just friends and tied the knot.
