I agree about waiting for the perfect shot. Getting a really good landscape takes patience, a good eye, and of course knowledge of what you need to do (to avoid frustration).
Some of my best shots (that required a lot of patience) was with lightning shots.

Some of the keys here were things that amateurs may miss, like turning off Auto Focus, manually taking a test shot, and ensuring the correct focus is set. It's a small thing, but makes a huge difference (which I learned the hard way!).
