15 minute bride and groom portrait shoot – wedding photography behind the scenes
All the equipment I use:

A full behind the scenes video of a 15 minute portrait shoot of a bride and groom at Eaves Hall in Lancashire, all filmed in one take. For this shoot I used two cameras (a Sony A9 and a Nikon D810) and two lenses (Samyang 35mm 1.4 and Nikon 85mm 1.8) and only used natural light. In this video you will see how I pose the bride and groom using natural light and also see the edited photographs and the settings which I used.
On a normal wedding day I would usually have two 15 minute portrait sessions with my bride and grooms, one in the natural light in the middle of the day and one as the sun is setting in the evening – this video is an example of how I would work in the natural light portrait session. I work quickly to try and give my couples a nice variety of wedding photographs but the key is to make the portrait session fun.
A huge thank you to Demi and James for being such awesome models and also to my friend and amazing wedding videographer Jonathan Anelli for filming this video for me. Check out Jon’s work here:

This is gold dust mate!! Lot's of people show bts for shoots but this is actually as close to real wedding day portraits as you can get! Well played!!
Awesome work.Just one question, last shot (B&W) settings are 1/32000 !!! f1.4 !!! maybe you think 1/3200 f.4.0 becouse house and threes are also sharp or i missing something :-/
I’m slowly learning from you and hopefully save enough to be able to attend one of your up coming training. I tried your trick here yesterday, did some shots in the sun and exposed to the building highlights and secondly exposed to the sky. I got some good images but my subject was underexposed. Is it better that way and then brighten the subject in photoshop? Or just expose for the subject and work the sky in post?
Amazing! You make it look so easy…
Great video mate.did you set your iso or use auto
generally not bad, and it might give new ideas to some people… 👍…But: The sun was not as high as you said at the beginning (0:25)… When I refer to the shadows of your legs @ min 3:57…😎 I cant see bad light conditions…compared to other coutries more south at the same day time (e.g. Spain, way more vertical light, needing a diffusor or mainly shadow), I would say: very GOOD light conditions!
Killed it!
Thank you for sharing! Please do more!
Thank you Neil for this. This is actually very insightful. 15 or 16 or 20 minutes, you slayed it with minimum time.
My favourite video so far Neil 🙂 Learning so much!
Absolutely brilliant video here Neil… thanks for sharing
That 35mm at the beginning WOW ❤️❤️
sorry I love your pics, but the pics in front of the bldg…not my taste, why did you shoot with such a high shutter speed?
Thanks again mate!!! I am catching a plane to my next wedding and you are my inspiration 😉
Like enorme!!!! Gracias por compartir Neil.
i salute u…
Awesome ………… Bro
Too much contrast on the pictures….Looks overburned in my opinion, especially portraits with the house behind. Look at their faces – completely red, like they ran a marathon…
Great video Neil! This is one of the best and realistic tutorials I have seen.
Nice work mate. I have the D 800 And i looking for camera nr.2 should i go D750 or D810. I have the sigma 35 And 85. art. Thank you
Great tutorial mate thank you! Earned my sub! I’m more for wedding videos but do the odd one for photography and this is the bit I need to learn the most on for photography!
Great Video man! Perfect idea for this Kind of Video! But – the midday sun in Winter is actually ok for me 🙂 i think 1 pm in british summer is really a lot more hard to work, Right?

This is fantastic Neil. Gets me excited for my next wedding. Great to see you in action!
