My name is Ted Forbes and I make videos about photography. I’ve been making photographs most of my life and I have a tremendously deep passion for photography that I want to share with you on YouTube.
The Art of Photography is my channel and I produce photography videos to provide a 360 degree look into the world of making images. We all want to get better so lets do this together!
I make videos covering famous photographers, photography techniques, composition, the history of photography and much more.
I also have a strong community of photographers who watch the show and we frequently do social media challenges for photographers to submit their own work. I feature the best and most interesting on the show when we do these so come check it out and get involved!
Looking forwards to your next video of photo book suggestions. Thanks for the great content.
is there a 2017 video?
Any update for 2017?
Would love to see a 2017 edition of this video!
Wow, you motivate me to make better content!
The image at 6:14 is of a one man band musician playing a zampogna 🙂 Probably taken in South-Central Italy. Nice!
The Art of Photography What do you think about The Film Photography Handbook by Chris Marquardt ..??
Do you care much for crit theory / aesthetic philosophy books? You know, like John Tagg, Baudelaire, Roland Barthes, etc.
I've been watching a ton of your videos lately. They're all great. After watching these I'm starting to work in doing my own videos. Thanks for the inspiration!
the family acid is awesome
You can Find La Strada on Amazon but is a 500$ book wich is considerable expensive.
Thank you!
what have been great to see some contemporary books in there.
Great videos I am glad I found your feed!
Thanks for this list Ted!! I'm glad that I could recall almost each one of them from your previous episodes. Very interested in the work of the Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide.
merry Christmas and happy new year. . love your videos..they are always inspiring me to go out and shot. Thank you. with all the best wishes ♡
Since Ted did not include a book on landscape photography I will add one for him. Published in 1984 and my favorite for this year. "Eliot Porter, American Places, with text by Wallace Stegner & Page Stegner." Porter's images are quiet and timeless. Stegner was one of our great writers. The book is out of print but still available on Amazon.
Not sure if you knew, but Modernbook is reprinting Fan Ho's, Hong Kong Yesterday. Should be out in February.
It's interesting now I find when you do this, and when I go visit Amazon and search for one of the titles, the other titles you recommend appear in the "also searched for" list below, so your 'book' episodes clearly drive some traction there. Your book recommendations are amongst my favourites of your videos — I've bought most of them, and never been disappointed by one of your recommendations. As you say, they offer inspiration, and also a great deal of pleasure. Thanks Ted.

Ted, how about an episode of your favorite non photo books?
Great episode, I'll have to go on the hunt for a copy of La Strada!
Jordan @ TCSTV
The city is a novel is indeed a fantastic book!
Thank you for sharing your top 10!
I own several of them and interested to discover the others. I guess La Strada will very hard to find.
The quality of your production is awesome! But the Content….so substantial!! Thank you for the deposit.
Ted, thanks for sharing your insight on these photo books.
When I saw the price for "La Strada" my heart lost a beat: I own a copy of that book which I purchased in 2007, a year after it came out. I was in college and used to skip lunch to have enough money to buy photo books once in a while.
I wasn't expecting that book to fetch such a high price. I guess that's one of the best investments I've ever made. I doubt I'll ever part from that book unless I'll hit a very rainy day.
I'll add to the topic the fact I that I believe that Italian Photography is very underrated. I can personally confirm that Italian photographers in general are indeed the "missing piece" in the History of Photography.
A reprint may hurt the value of the original edition, but I wouldn't care much as long as Italian photographers can become more known to the international public.
Cheers from Italy!
Great picks! all masters. I thank you, Ted, for the inspiration you give me to keep pursuing photography. I look forward to your next year of videos to come!
SERIOUSLY I WANT TO HUG YOU FOR CREATING SUCH GREAT CONTENT TED. I MEAN, YT IS BETTER WITH YOU. THERE.
thanks for the book reviews. Do you do any photo critique where we can submit our photos to you and you critique them on a video? I would like to submit photos if you do.
So little money, so many nice books.. that La Strada specially, I'm jealous!
