The Best Color Photography Background For Portraits Is Gray – Studio Backdrop Tutorial

43 67

Studio equipment is expensive and you don’t want to be stuck with just one or two backgrounds. If I could own only one background for portraits, it would have to be gray. With a minimal amount of effort, you can turn a gray backdrop into white, or black or pretty much any color you can imagine. You can use seamless paper backgrounds or vinyl backdrops, or even gray material or gray paint on a wall.

If you keep light off the background – it will turn black. If you add enough light to the gray background it will turn white. And if you add colored gels to your background strobes, you can make that gray background any color you want to.

Hi Joe. Love your video specially for me whose planning to buy a backdrop for my photoshoot. How about a gray backdrop having a grunge texture. Is it ok rather than having a plain gray backdrop? What is your advise. It will be highly appreciated.

Which background is better for a knockout? Why bother getting other colors on the background when you can cut the person later and add any background? Silly questions from a curious mind. Great video.
