Walking you though a shoot- Breakdown of the Bridal shoot in Ireland using the Rotolight Neo 2
Join Sony Artisan of Imagery and Rotolight Master of Light Jason Lanier for a presentation that he conducted for a group of photographers at Samy’s Camera in Pasadena, California where he visually walks the audience through a bridal shoot he did at the Glendalough cemetery in Ireland using the Rotolight Neo 2. PLEASE THUMBS UP, SHARE, LEAVE A COMMENT AND SUBSCRIBE!!
THIS IS PART 4 OF THE PRESENTATION FROM SAMY’S in September 2017.
Lots of Jason’s videos focus on the shooting side of photography. But when he gives presentations, even ones that are designed for lighting, he will always delve into the business aspect of photography so photographers can figure out how to take the gear and lessons they learn and apply them to good use so they can pursue their dreams.
We thank you for watching and invite you to stick around and watch the other parts of this presentation that will be coming soon. We also invite you to watch some of Jason’s other videos while you’re here. Don’t forget to subscribe and click on notifications so you’re updated every time a new video is released!
Thanks,
Jason Lanier Photography
Before even seeing the 2nd shots I knew that was home. Glendalough is lovely. Not far from me in ireland
Question: What would the difference be between using this and using a ring light?
HAHAHAHA!!! Dude! You too?! I say the same thing like 3 times already. "Excuse me sir! Are you a professional photographer? you can't be around here unless you have a permit." Me: "Oh! Me?! Noooooo! I'm just out here with my girlfriend trying to get some photos for her family." Person: "Oh cool! Okay, you're fine. Y'all enjoy!" Hahaha! Works every time!
🙌🏼 I couldn’t agree more. I tell my clients to be at the location at 6:00 am for the specific reason of defused light.
7:26 haha
Jason, if I use a flashpoint R2 speedlight, with a small diffusor such as as flashdisc, could I essentially get the exact same results (but for under $200)? The only difference I see is that it has a modeling light, but if you are shooting in on a cloudy day the modeling light is unnecessary. Not trying to throw shade on the you, or your sponsor. You are getting beautiful results and getting sponsored is really awesome. I'm just trying to understand how to get the same results using my existing gear without having to buy more equipment.
I think I'm sold on the neo 2 now you need to get back here to the Big Island 🤙🏽
i want to see you shoot kit lens Jason
Im an amateur, and still in the early stages of my photography, and everyone of your videos, i have learned something. Thank you for sharing your stuff sir.
Jason I have a question..I recently bought 2 neo 2's and 1 aoes..I intend to use the aoes as the main and the other 2 as secondary..i have the barn doors and filter packs for both..the aoes doesn't make a softbox, but the neo does make one..how much softer is the light shooting with the neo softbox vs the aoes..if you have both which do you recommend as the mainlight..I just don't know if purchasing the aoes was the best move if there isn't a softbox for it..but your the light master,so I want to hear your thoughts when using these.
AL, reflector and sometimes a small strobe off camera with diffuser all work for me in different situations – all have their place, but most important thing as you say is to understand light.
these videos are so valuable!!! i wish to meet you in person one day so i can thank you for the chance to learn all these things.
Great series! Video 5 might answer this for me but I'm interested, since you said you always use the Neo 2 at full power and you always shoot wide open, the only way to control the amount of that light without changing the ambient would be distance to subject. If that's the case, how much affect does that have on the light quality out of these lights? Looks like even when you have this small light far away from subject it still produces nice soft light.
Hi Jason, have you done a comparison of the Neo to the IceLight? Please direct me to that video if you have. Thanks.
You are the best !! 👏👏👏
Jason you live in the wrong country, her in Norway we even use the Broncolor Para 222 and the Cops Lowe it 😂
I have my Neo 2 & cant wait to the weekend to try it out … LED Flash is the future..
Thanks for all that your giving and sharing
Hi Jason, you're wearing a nice leather jacket. where did you buy these?
This is like watching a old Flash Gordon serial lol.
When are you going to shoot for Vogue?
I just started watching your videos yesterday and before the intro finished i hit the subscribe button.. Awesome stuff Jason Big Fan..
very informative – – Neo on my shopping list….
Ordered my light
It's quite baffling it's not okay to shoot photos in the public but it's OK to own automatic rifles in the U.S. This is so wrong.
looks good but ill wait for more reviews but you do have me interested , lets not forget jason is a very good post processor so you have to be able to do that as well as light the subject to get these types of shots and of course compose etc etc , as i said you have me interested though well done man
You're like the 'Herbalife' of photography!
Brilliant jason.
Compelling arguments for the Neo 2. I'm more interested with each new video in this series. Thanks for all the real-world examples. (made more beautiful by Maddie's amazing modeling)
Hi Jason the image at 10.20 its the natural light that creates the catchlight in this pic is it not?the Neo doesn't create that, its obviously the cloud break? its a great pic but i don't think its illustrating the Neo here but rather the catchlight is natural, or am i missing something?
In fact if you look at the catchlight in her eye on this image you can see the rotolight gives a small pin light to the bottom left of her nearest eye which is not nice at all.
im not trying to be critical Jason as i like your vids but its clearly not the Neo in this pic that is causing the light in her eye.
I've always enjoyed your videos, Jason, and I think I've learned a lot from you, but over the last six months you've become a salesman for rotolight and sony. Kind of a shame, you used to say it doesn't matter what gear you shoot with, now all you can do is give a sales pitch. Quite frankly, the rotolight isn't as visually appealing as the flashpoints, period. They just don't have the pop, they seem harsh and muted. But all that aside, I'm sorry you've gone down this road. I know what I have to say doesn't really matter to you, but I AM a working professional and I know what I'm talking about. There are a lot of young shooters or people on a budget that can't afford an A9 and a neo 2 rotolight. I admire your work, I think you're a very honest guy, so take it for what it's worth.
When is this Neo 2 going to be available? Definitely need one instead of monolights after Mr Lanier's demonstrations. Thank you Jason.
So basically Jezus is the son of a Irish photographer , can I summarize it like that ?? 😉
Can't wait for part 5! Thanks, Jason.
Thanks for all your help Jason…. I just wanted to know which focus settings you use for your modeling shots. Do you change them depending on the shoot? I don't see much info on this subject and that's why I am asking… I shoot with the A7rii and a77ii… thank you
I carry a boot knife like Jim West… it pops out the front… I kick the security guards in the shin and run.
Great video
CRUSHING IT STILL JASON!!!
Ow man this Rotolight neo 2 is not available yet? Damn, was planning on getting one on my connecting flight through New York… :/
How many photographers give so many secrets to their success? We owe Jason a debt of gratitude.
Another great video, Great Information, Thank YOU for all that your giving and sharing your hard earned experience!!
Part 5? man this is like a mini series on TV. lol keep em coming.
Whats with the shitty quality? Great content as always.
