Very helpful. Thank you! The full space I have to work with is 12 ft × 12 ft. I'm hoping that's enough space to take full scale shots?

  4. srlkngl says

this would have been nice if i culd see illustrations….but thanks…i appreciate your generosity….

  5. Do you have any idea what printer would be great but also affordable to print out A4, A3 prints and lower? We're hoping to start doing family photographs, but obviously need the right printer to print out on to.

we just built our first studio it's all white I wanted to know you take on if we should glaze the white floor or just get plexiglass for reflections and to protect the floor from having to repaint all the time. thanks.

Cheers for the video content! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about – Dalletante Magic Growth Blueprint (google it)? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy finally surprisingly increased height and got taller with it.

    Encouraging and informative; thank you!

Matt, I'm wondering if having mostly Gray Walls, one Green for video, plus Black Floors and a White Celling would work Ok. I will be using mostly Old School stage type lighting along with Soft Boxes. I prefer the constant lighting for more control. By the way I happen to like the feet and inches lol I'm American but I live in the Philippines, so I'm the one who has to change lol. I'm 56 years young, but this Old Dog doesn't mind learning new things; other wise I wouldn't be learning Photography

Then you need to contact YouTube and demand they don't use your pages as propaganda sites for that anti-American POS muslim, obama. . .

Why the fuck does America use the "feet system" when every other place in the world uses meters. I hate living in america sometimes…….

The timing was excellent on this video as I had to give up my commercial studio with the building being sold. New spaces are very expensive so I made up my mind to use a spare bedroom with about 200 sq feet into my studio. I already have my equipment and now need to figure out how to work in a smaller space. Would like to know the size, dimensions of your studio Matt and if you just do head shots, 3/4 or full length there and if you have room to use props on a themed shoot?

  15. James M says

nice, but I was expecting there would be a example floor plan, outlines on points. as you usually do sometimes.. Congrats on your new studio.

  16. Silky Johnson says

lol I haven't seen a single one. For me it's the same gadget website video every time. But sit through and support Matt! He doesn't get money if you skip. (just mute it or something)

  17. John Citizen says

I think you left out the most important aspect, how are you going to get paying clients? I'm guessing Matt make his money teaching, its a different story these days making money from clients paying for actual photography.

  18. Mike-Boohaka says

Hi Matt. Thanks for your tips. I have found your videos are great help and inspiring me to get on with my photography and not be concerned about having the best equipment! I wish you success.

ads are determined by your profile and the advertisers – I have no say in that.

What's with all the Obama videos we forced to watch before ur video. I don't mind a normal ad but his political crap is unacceptable.

  23. tgw1031 says

    Matt,
Awesome video. I am currently purchasing the components for a mobile studio. I have done exactly what you have said about clearing out my living room to shoot. I have been taking my time as funds become available. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you.

  24. quint150 says

You should start a photo school.

  25. LaughingLion4Ever says

Never get a studio with anything but flat walls. You don't want lines, switches, cracks, etc. If you have them it takes time in post. If you have clean walls you can easily build a cyc wall.

  26. Eiga Turtle says

great video ,. A lot of good information in here :))

  27. TechCloud says

I see, sure I will. Thanks

Great vid as usual Matt, but I couldn't agree more with you with using cheap gear. I get all my lighting, defusers etc from Honk Kong and used it for commercial jobs. Other than the odd miss-fire from my povertywizzards, it's never let me down. Cheap gear rocks and it allows you to set up a studio really cheaply and no one could ever tell, given you know how to use the equipment.

  29. Matt Granger says

    great

  30. Matt Granger says

    thanks buddy

  31. WHITE LION says

Hey Matt, Where is Tina? I wouldnt mind if she was in the background doing her nails or reading Cosmopolitan! Just to help you out, your corner logo looks nice but it is missing the "R" get youR gear out. As for my "studio" it's my living room which is small with low ceilings. Having a crop sensor camera is difficult in this situation.

  32. saturn lom says

Thank you for this.im planning to setup my own studio and this video is very helpful

  33. Matt Granger says

I suggest you test it outdoors with the way you like to shoot – and measure it.

  34. afghan sabog says

Hi Matt, I have available space beside my house and planning on building a studio in the next 3 months. Can you give me a an ideal Floor Area Dimension and ceiling height. You mentioned 4 meters for width, how about length? How much length do I need for my 70 – 200mm to fill full body shot. I can use my 24 – 70mm for family or group portraits. My main concern for this message is I want to maximize the use of my 70-200. It is my favorite lens and i want to use its full capabilities.

    Thanks

  35. Matt Granger says

    sorry buddy

  36. Gewglesux says

Great timing Matt, I just started playing around with flash units, umbrellas etc at home and was thinking of dedicating a room/space for shooting. Great tips, also in the comments. Thanks.
