Don’t miss the next LIVE online photography workshop:
A initially learned photography as a kid shooting black & white then developing the photos in a dark room, that was a magical time and sparked my interest in photography. As I got older I dabbled in digital photography but wasn't until my kids were born that i really started to get an active interest back in it all.

Hi Karl. I am interested in where you get your scrim roll, and also what it is made of?
The C stands that you use, is it possible to slide the individual legs up and down the shaft? The reason why I ask if they were adjustable, you could use them on staircases, or uneven ground!
Great video. But do you have some video where you talk about the material first needed on a photography studio?
Like a lot of people, a learn a lot from you.
Thanks Karl
You come up with some amazing concepts with your photography and you up with some fantastic ideas leading to incredible photography. What would you say your ratio is between planning and taking your shots? As someone else has said, you deserve all the success that comes your way as you have really grafted for it.
Excellent video as usual, keep it up
I'm having a hard time finding the type of clamps you showed at the beginning of the video… could you please link to them?
❤️U!!!
Dude I know you get allot of crap for the gear you use and Blah blah blah, I have to say I love your process and I think anyone who calls themselves a photographer should always look to be pushing themselves further and being able to shoot with simple set ups but aspire to actually constantly elevate the level of work and build on inventory not for the sake have having a huge price tag on the studios equipment but because each item has a perpus
do you realise your face is not on focus most of the time when holding your camera ? or is it the way you wanted in your vlog ?
Hello Karl Where did you get your photo sand bag and the light that was hanging at the end of stand?
A question about what a photography studio need as a basic. #1: Well painted walls? What Pantone colour should I order to fulfill the standard of requirements? Did you mentioned your painters to fill the walls with a particular kind/secification of paint?
Hopefully the Broncolor sandbags are under a $1000
How many it cost?
Those C-stands look really heavy duty, what brand are those
You should pick up the X1D and do a blog about it 😀
Hi Karl!
Great tutorial – as usual. The answer arrived before I posed the question: "What kind of light stands should be considered firs when setting up a studio: C-stands or stands with tripod release ("spider") legs?"
My awareness of C-stands is that they seem to be so "static". With tripod release leg stands I can mount the casters. For product photography – stills – C-stands are obviously better (meat won't run when fresh), but what with photographing people?
You where right in your email this is an interesting video, Just quickly like to say a big thanks to you and your team for all the great videos you have made this year and I hope you all have a supper Christmas be save and happy.
More quality material from your studio Karl. Have learnt so much from you and your Advertising and Product DVD's. Great to see more of what you use in the studio.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Karl Wher do you buy your C stands, I'm in Cape Town and I would like to find some different prices.
How do you store all of this in your studio?
Hey Karl, interesting video!
Got a few questions/comments for you:
1) is it possible to put up a list of the studio hardware you ordered (type, brand, where to get it, that sort of stuff)? I saw some bits that looked quite interesting, like some of the clamps. Also, it'd be useful to know about some quality brands for this type of hardware, as there is some variation in quality going around I think.
2) maybe it's an idea to build into your studio some movable electrically powered winches, so you can lift up camera or lighting gear in your studio.
I need some new C stands, can you send some to me ? lol look forwards to seeing your next shoot. 😎
Off the subject, if I was lucky to have a Studio Space like you Carl. I would get 3 or 4 large ceiling fans to blow heat down in the winter. Have on off switches for each fan so that each fan can be switched on or off independently.
Can you send me a complete list of this order?
i spent the first part of the video waiting for you to step on your glasses on the floor. I was strangely disappointed when you didn't 😉
What C-stands you are using in this video
That's what I like about your videos Karl, you give people a great insight into what is involved in setting-up a pro-studio.
any 3rd party foba Clamps ?
Great video
What is the name of the gimbal (I guess it's galled) that you attached to the c-stand at 3:40? And the name of the arm with the hook on it at the same time? Thanks!
Awesome video 🙂
Another awesome video, p.s can you attach desk lamps to a C stand 😂
All the time i have wories about your glasses on the floor 🙂
What's that name of that style of boom arm that's really long like that? I'd like to get one here in the US
Are you near the Airport?
Some noise, back sound, between 3:05–3:20 🙂
Greatness! I had to order by C-stands from the states a few year ago. Is it easier now to buy them in the UK Karl?
Best thing about C stands you can put flat to the wall because of legs very useful in small spaces for backdrops..
Great video Karl!
Im following you like 5 years ago!
Glad to see the evolution, I learned a lot with you!
Thanks for share, greetings from Montevideo, Uruguay.
Hello, karl! I love your work and I liked ask to you, so you can look my work in Instagram marcelotucano8, and say if you like or not. thanks so much!
Gear porn is just what I needed tonight 🙂 Just got an Avenger roller stand yesterday, beautiful thing.
Hi Karl, I love your stuff… for product photography what camera stand would you recommend? I currently use a Menfroto tripod and I am not happy so what would you recommend.
Hi karl!
Did you shot the short video of the lovely old man with your hasselblad?
I sent a message to you this morning via Twitter but just letting you know as got no response there is a YouTube channel pimping out a few of your 2+hr PS tutorial videos as theirs – Sean
Wher do you buy your steel stands?? I'm in Milan, and I would to know if it's possible to buy your stands on line or…..
Bravo Karl….bravo!! 😉
