Loved it, subed, hows the intervolometer? Does it do time lapse well? Can you do auto bracketing with a timer, or do you have to hold your finger on the shutter the whole time? Thanks again friend!

  2. Richard James Milne says

Nice, but I cannot see the value in this camera or lens! At $3,500 CAN for the body & $3,200 CAN for this lens I can do better! Panasonic could do better! Oh well, maybe next time.

How does this lens stack up agains the SL Summilux 50 1.4? Also, do you think the S1R can deliver the same IQ, if not better than the SL? Also, I haven't seen a single video with the S1 or S1R with native Leica SL lenses.

really nice pre/overview ! the lens seems to be so well made.
i have a silly question. is this a paid review?otherwise, how panasonic sends these prototypes for review?

Subscribed. Really helpful and interesting review! I came here from Lok Cheung's channel. Both your review and Lok's really complemented the other. I really like my D850 but this Lumix looks so good.

  6. Martin Burkhalter says

Really refreshing to listen to a real photographer, compared to all those “wannabes “ (TN) and spec readers on YouTube. Thanks for your efforts, Darryl.

great video! do you know how much this camera will cost?

  9. IgorDavid says

hope you shoot part in shop on gh5 ….that focus is off just hunting…

  10. Deadeye says

Compare the AF with GH5, if S1 has the same pulsing in background thats really bad then.

  11. Hon Kei Ma says

go get a tamron 45 f1.8 with your nikon. you will be happy too.

  12. Hon Kei Ma says

I think your nikon got 2 cards slot too.

  13. Hon Kei Ma says

the focus ring looks like my 10+ years old tamron 90mm marco lens. That never work.

  14. Ail'enduril says

So what's BAD about this camera?

  15. BROis says

I think a lot of people will have questions about the AF. I'd love to see some tests in that regard. For example, take a look @3:41 and look at the "50" on the lens… you'll notice the lens is constantly pulsing.

I realize this video is being recorded on a GH5, so maybe that would be a good place to start.. compare S1 and GH5 (with latest firmware)?

Great shots and review Darryl, can’t wait to see more… I’ve been eagerly awaiting and saving up for this as my first full frame mirrorless. Great to see it shot in Taipei as I’m planning to buy mine and get it tax free on my next trip out if Auckland to Taipei in April 😉 BTW I finally shot the roll of JCH Streetpan you gave me at the Sigma comp exhibition last year… absolutely loved it shot on my re-found Nikon FM2! 👍

    Darryl …. great review.

I have a question: now going to change from my D850 to the S1r, but I’m running with a Profoto a1 with Nikon Air Remote TTL.
Question is … will the Olympus Air Remote work on the new S1 &S1r ? I’m not sure as i was under the impression Panasonic and Olympus share the same hot shoe?

  18. Cliff Totten says

Nice Job. Very nice – One question, the the S1 have the option to pull pack on the noise reduction like the GH5/GH5-S? (NR +/-) On my GH5 I pull back all the NR because post NR is was more surgical and accurate than real-time, in-camera NR. Thanks!

  19. Jay Alexander says

Does the S1 and the S1R have silent shooting mode?

  20. Bruno Guerreiro says

Hi Darryl, have just watched all S1 videos and have also seen Lok’s video where he was stalking you. Thanks for sharing!

On the S1R, can you select the size of the raw files? It is handy to have 47MP available but In the interest of storage space, it would be great to be able to save smaller raw files.

How fast is the continuous AF for portraits and does it compare with the eyeAF of the Sony a7(r)iii?

I’ve seen on other videos that the deep learning AF seems to put boxed around targets (faces, people and/or animals) but where is it actually focusing? For instance, when it is tracking a dog or a bird, does it focus on the eyes of the animal?

It would be great if you could cover a series of different AF scenarios in your next videos.
    Regards.

  21. Georg E. says

really interesting Review! Can you say how is the low light performance and weatherproofness compared with a Nikon D5?

  22. denault3985 says

The video keeps hunting on the focus, Panasonic needs to slow down the searching in the background. The face focus was right on!
Btw, the still pictures (Jpegs) were excellent.

  23. Василий Маврин says

The idea of a ring on the lens taken from Olympus.

    Shame.

  24. Jay G. says

So the EVF is even better than the Nikon Zs?

  25. Scott Graham says

Watched all 3 videos. It looks like Panasonic really got it right. Sony should be worried 🙃

  26. Rasmus Mattsson says

Thanks for the video. You're an excellent reviewer, easy and interesting to listen to.
Been looking to change from Olympus m43 for some time now and and it's between this and the Nikon Z. Sony is out due to bodies not being build to the standards I'm used to.
I've only tried the G9 quickly but would you say the S series has similar menu systems? Can you change to custom focus points like the G9? Have you had a chance to try out the deep learning AF with humans and animals in S-AF and C-AF?

Must say I am a bit worried about the size, coming from m43 even though I use Olympus high end PRO lenses. But for someone who wants to use it for shooting wild life amongst other things, it might have become too big? On the other hand, that's a silly statement as most wildlife has been shot using cameras like the D5 and D850 with huge lenses.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

    /Rasmus
