Shutterbug’s Essential Guide To Better Photography Skills
Are you able to take good pictures? Is learning how to become a better photographer something you think about? If so, this is the article for you. This article contains tips and advice to help your improve your gift for photography.
Overcast Sky
You should try to stay away from an overcast sky when taking pictures. If your photos contain too much gray sky they will appear washed-out and muted. If you have to shoot with an overcast sky, use black and white methods of photography. On a beautiful day, you can include as much blue sky as you desire.
When you are taking photos of landscapes, create an appearance of depth. Give an idea of the scale by including a subject somewhere in the foreground. If you set a small aperture, one that is not greater than f/8 (for many digital cameras that are made for consumers), or f/16 (on a full-frame SLR) you will notice that your foreground and background look sharp.
Choose your very best pictures if you are going to expose your work. You do not want to show every picture, or too many with the same subject. Your audience does not get as much out of each picture, and can become quickly bored from seeing the same photo subject matter over and over. Change it around a little; show different types of photographs.
Use care when packing your photography equipment in trip preparation. Take extra batteries, cleaning accessories and different lenses. Don’t take 50 lenses when five will do, as this could bog you down when trying to carry your camera equipment from place to place.
Memory Card
One of the best ways to take excellent shots is to take a lot of them; purchase a memory card which can store a great deal of pictures. If you have a memory card that is large enough, you will never worry about being able to store additional photos on your card. You will also be able to shoot RAW photos when you have a big memory card, which will allow you to edit them the most in post-production.
Think about getting together with other photographers in a club. You can also just make a photographer friend to snap pictures with. You can learn from others and pick up new ideas, but avoid letting their style take over your own. Show them your pictures and view theirs to figure out different ways to visualize a subject.
One way to exercise your creative muscles is to put limits on how you take pictures. For instance, set a daily goal and just shoot what represents a single concept, like “sweet.” You can improve your technique by taking many pictures from the same location. By using limitations to your advantage, you’ll be forced to think more creatively, resulting in interesting and unusual pictures.
You need to shoot fast when you are taking a photo. Be prepared to snap that image before it disappears. It takes only seconds for an animal to run away or hide. People’s smiles begin to look strained after a short period of time. That cresting wave or speeding SR-71 jet fighter that seemed to appear out of nowhere isn’t going to pause while you fiddle with your flash. Don’t fiddle with your camera so much that you just miss the shot altogether.
This article, if fully understood, can lead you in the right direction towards improving your photography skills. Hopefully, the new techniques you try transform your photos from “Hmmm…” into “Wow!” If they aren’t working for you, try new things until your skills start improving.
